Engineers home to Plattsburgh State for a pair (3pm)

HOMESTAND CONTINUES: Rensselaer takes on Plattsburgh State for a pair of games on Wednesday (3pm) ... The doubleheaders was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but got pushed back due to weather.

ENGINEERS SWEEP SPARTANS: Taylor Ten Eyck went a combined 4 for 8 to help Rensselaer to a doubleheader sweep of Castleton State, yesterday, winning 5-3 and 10-1 in five innings ... Ten Eyck answered a first-inning Castleton run in game one, with an opposite field hit that scored Morgan Kollmeier from second ... Stephanie Caudle followed up with a two-run double to the gap in left, before Victoria Greco singled home Morgan Ten Eyck to make it 4-1 ... RPI tacked on a fifth run in the bottom of the second, when Danielle Balestrini scored on a Castleton error ... A two-run homer by Chelsea Grady - her first of the season - brought the visitors to within 5-3 in the third, but Rensselaer righthander Kristina Weltzin was able to shut the door ... She allowed three runs on six hits in 7.0 innings, striking out six ... In game two, the Engineers put up eight runs in the bottom of the first on six hits and one Spartans error ... Balestrini and Kollmeier walked to open in the inning, before Taylor Ten Eyck and Jena Servidone notched back-to-back RBI-singles ... After Caudle drove in a run with a single to center, Devan Puhl doubled, scoring Morgan Ten Eyck ... Kollmeier later capped the rally with a bases-clearing double to right ... Caudle was nearly untouched from the circle, striking out seven of the first nine batters she faced ... The Spartans got in the board in the fifth, on Katie Traver's first home run of the season ... RPI ended the game in the bottom of the frame, platting a pair of runs for the 10-1 victory.

She has surrendered 16 runs (14 earned) on 18 hits in 23.1 innings ... Opponents are batting .202 off of her ... Sophomore Stephanie Caudle is 2-1 with a 0.81 ERA in five appearances (3 starts) ... PACING THE CARDINALS: Senior Brittany Marshall is batting a team-best .362 (17 for 47) with three doubles, two triples, a home run, 15 runs scored and six runs batted in ... Freshmen Jackie Decker is second at .308 (12 for 39) with two doubles, a triple, six runs and seven RBI ... Sophomore Hope VanBrocklin rounds out the top three hitters with a .273 (9 for 33) average ... She has a double, four runs and five RBI ... Junior righthander Morgan Anderson is 3-2 with a 1.34 earned run average in nine appearances (6 starts) ... She has 21 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.

SINGLE-GAME STRIKEOUT RECORD: Sophomore Stephanie Caudle recorded a school record 18 strikeouts in RPI's 5-1 win over SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday ... She topped Michelle Street '09, who had 17 in a game in 2007.

CENTURY MARK: Senior Kristina Weltzin became the first pitcher in school history to appear in 100 games, when she started game one against SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday.

LIBERTY LEAGUE HONORS: The Liberty League handed out its weekly award winners for the week of March 30 and freshman Devan Puhl has been named the Rookie of the Week ... She hit .333 (2 for 6), with a run and two runs batted in, as the Engineers went 2-0 last week ... In RPI's 13-5 win over SUNY New Paltz, she went 2 for 3, with a walk, a run and two RBI.
