RPI Athletics on YouTubeTROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team hosted No. 16 Skidmore College in a Liberty League match at Sharp Courts and the Engineers were defeated by the Thoroughbreds, 8-1. RPI is now 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the Liberty League. Skidmore, which is sixth in the Northeast Region, improves to 10-8 and 7-0.
Skidmore opened the day by winning each of the three doubles matches, 8-6 at No. 1, 8-3 at No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3. The Thoroughbreds took a 6-0 lead by winning the top three flights of singles, each in straight sets.
Rensselaer broke the shutout when No. 6 singles player
Emily Aaldenberg (West Chester, PA / West Chester B. Reed Henderson) defeated Monique Carlson (Staten Island, NY / Curtis), 8-6.
The Engineers are back home on Saturday afternoon when they host Wheaton (Mass.) College in its final match at Sharp Courts (12pm). Skidmore hosts Trinity (Conn.) College on Saturday at 1pm.
