ENGINEERS TAKE TWO IN LEAGUE OPENER: Kristina Weltzin threw a complete game one-hitter  in beating Skidmore, 2-1, in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday ... The Engineers then won game two, 4-3 ... Weltzin had a no-hitter going into the last inning with the Engineers holding a 2-0 lead before allowing a one-out single ... Cassie Fishkin took the loss for Skidmore, allowing eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts ... Taylor Ten Eyck had two hits with a run and Jena Servidone had two hits with an RBI ... Stephanie Caudle finished 2 for 2 ... In game two, Caudle went all 7.0 innings in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits ... She struck out four and walked three ... Skidmore starter, Amanda Carilli took the loss, surrendering four runs (2 earned) on eight hits in 6.0 innings ... Caudle provided the big blow offensively for RPI, launching a two-run homer to right in the second inning ... RPI then add two more in the third.

SINGLE-GAME STRIKEOUT RECORD: Sophomore Stephanie Caudle recorded a school record 18 strikeouts in RPI's 5-1 win over SUNY New Paltz last Wednesday ... She topped Michelle Street '09, who had 17 in a game in 2007.

WELTZIN TIES SCHOOL WINS RECORD: With her win on Saturday – the 58th of her collegiate career – Kristina Weltzin is now tied with Larina Suker '00 for the most in school history ... Weltzin has already set new school marks in appearances (103) and innings (533.1).

CENTURY MARK: Senior Kristina Weltzin became the first pitcher in school history to appear in 100 games, when she started game one against SUNY New Paltz last Wednesday.

RPI SWEEPS WEEKLY LEAGUE AWARDS: The Liberty League handed out its weekly award winners for the week of March 30 and three Rensselaer student-athletes were honored ... Taylor Ten Eyck and Kristina Weltzin were named Performer and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, while Devan Puhl was selected as the Rookie of the Week for the second straight week ... Ten Eyck batted a team-best .524 (11 for 21), recording two doubles, a home run, five runs scored and seven runs batted in ... She had a .762 slugging percentage and a .524 on-base percentage ... Weltzin went 3-0 with a 1.59 earned run average in three starts last week (all complete games) ... She gave up just nine hits in 22.0 innings, striking out 21, while allowing a .122 opponent batting average ... Puhl hit .333 (3 for 9), with a double, a triple and an RBI ... She compiled a .667 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
