RPI Athletics on FacebookNEW PALTZ, N.Y. - Following a sweep of doubles, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team won three of the six singles matches to defeat SUNY New Paltz 6-3 in a non-league match at the North Tennis Courts. RPI improves to 2-1 while the Hawks fall for the first time this season and are now 4-1.
RPI's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams consisted of all freshmen with
Maria Salmon and
Andrea Valencia winning at No. 2 (8-5) and
Nisha Rajamohan and
Mailani Neal winning at No. 3 (8-3). Rajamohan went on to win her singles match, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Other singles winners for the Engineers were
Emily Laurilliard with a come-from-behind effort at No. 2 (2-6, 7-6, 10-5) and
Pooja Ganesh at No. 6 (6-4, 6-3).
The Engineers return to the court next weekend when they travel to Geneva, N.Y., to compete in the ITA Tournament. Action begins Friday and runs through the weekend.
