TROY, N.Y. - For the fifth time this year, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams both won dual meets, as the Engineers defeated Union College, 145-98 and 148-94, respectively. Both teams remain perfect at 5-0 on the season.
The men's win was aided by first place finishes from the 200 IM Relay team, which finished in 1:40.96. Freshman
Dan Hendricks (Superior, CO/Fairview) came away with a victory in the 1000 freestyle (10:17.39), while classmate
Andrew Klobucher (Wenham, MA/Hamilton Wenham) won the 200 free (1:50.90), with teammates
Brandon Koo (Little Neck, NY/Stuyvesant) and
Spencer Marquardt (Rice Lake, WI/Rice Lake) taking second and third. Fellow rookie
Stuart Stritzel (Killingworth, CT/Fairfield Prep) took the 50 free in 22.12 and senior captain David Gardner (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) finished just 0.04 seconds ahead of freshman
Mavin Liu (Westboro, MA/Westboro) in the 200 IM (2:03.25).
Klobucher also won the 100 free (49.42), while Gardiner earned another win in the 100 backstroke (55.27). Koo was right in his heels in second (56.72).
The women's 200 IM Relay team was also victorious in 1:54.90. That squad included junior Siena Sara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), who also registered individual wins in the 1000 free (11:09.04) and 100 breastroke (1:11.42). Sophomore Danielle Sauve (Walpole, MA/Walpole) earned a win the 50 free (25.28) and classmate Shanny Lin (El Paso, TX/El Paso) took home the 200 IM in 2:15.11 and the 100 fly in 59.58.
Freshman Amanda Wang (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) picked up a victory in the 100 backstroke (59.75), while sophomore Jessica Sauve (Walpole, MA/Walpole) won the 500 free (5:14.32).
Senior captain Maddie Miller (Yardley, PA/Princeton Day School) won off both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards with scores of 249.35 and 267.20, respectively.
The Engineers, are back on the pool on Saturday for the RPI Kumpf Invitational, which begins at 12pm.
