TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team played its second dual match of the season and the Engineers, led by a sweep in doubles, defeated SUNY Geneseo, 7-2. RPI, which was playing is first match on the road, is now 2-0, while the Knights fall for the first time and are now 6-1.

Sophomores Erica Frommer (Montgomery, NY / Valley Central) and Andrea Valencia (Lake Mary, FL / Lake Mary) put the visitors ahead with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Freshman Allie Kallish (Tampa, FL / H.B. Plant) and junior Melanie Frank (Durham, CT / Coginchaug Regional) then won 8-5 at No. 1 to give the Engineers a 2-0 lead and the team of Tess Lubin (Wilmette, IL / New Trier) and Mailani Neal (Kailua-Kona, HI / Kamehameha) secured a 3-0 lead with an 8-6 victory.

Kallish was the first to close out her singles match, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, but the Knights made it interesting with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

It was Frommer who clinched the match for Rensselaer when she won at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Valencia and Neal then posted 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Sophomore Erica Frommer (Montgomery, NY / Valley Central), who won at No. 3 doubles, put the home team ahead 4-0 with a win at No. 5 singles, defeating sophomore Lindsay Haley (Hicksville, NY / St. Anthony's), 6-0, 6-2. Kallish then won the deciding match, defeating senior Olivia Ammariti (Huntington, NY / Huntington), 6-2, 6-2.

New Paltz won the next two matches that were completed, but the Engineers won the last two for a final score of 7-2. Frank won at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4, and freshman Tess Lubin (Wilmette, IL / New Trier) was victorious at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. Lubin also won at No. 2 doubles, posting an 8-4 score with Mailani Neal (Kailua-Kona, HI / Kamehameha).

RPI returns to the court on October 9 when it travels to an invitational at Connecticut College. Geneseo returns to the court on Friday in the SUNYAC Tournament.
