TROY, N.Y. - In a match with post-season implications, the William Smith College women's tennis team won five of six singles in defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 6-3, in a Liberty League contest at Sharp Courts. The Herons improve to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference and hold the fourth and final position for the Liberty League Tournament. William Smith can clinch a post-season berth with a win over Union College in its next match (May 1).
The Engineers, who are 5-9 in the league and 2-3 in the Liberty League, jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Melanie Frank were victorious at No. 1, defeating Hannah More and Michaelann Denton, 8-4, before teammates
Pooja Ganesh and
Nisha Rajamohan took No. 3 against Alex Cattie and Sydney Ferry, 8-3. Alex Greenberg and Katarina Kostovic pulled the visitors to within one with a win at No. 4 doubles, 8-4.
More, a junior, then won her 10th straight match at No. 1 singles, defeating
Erica Frommer, 6-0, 6-3, to even things at 2-2. Denton and Kostovic made it 4-2 for the Herons with wins at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. Laurilliard, a senior, helped stave off William Smith by winning at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1, but the Herons got a pair of three-set victories in the final two matches, including a clinching 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, victory from Connie Froass at No. 6.
