TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team saw its playoff hopes dashed in the season finale as the Engineers lost to No. 37 Vassar College, 6-3. The loss drops RPI to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the Liberty League, putting them in fifth place in the current standings. Rensselaer could climb to fourth, but still would not qualify for the conference tournament based on a tiebreaker with William Smith College. The Brewers improve to 13-7 and 6-1 and sit in a three-way tie for first place.

On Saturday at Sharp Courts, Vassar captured two of the three doubles points and four singles points, including No. 4-6, in winning for the seventh time in its last eight matches. The No. 2 doubles team of Lauren Stauffer and Kate Christiansen opened with an 8-3 win before Hanna McGuire and Shayna Becker won at No. 3, 8-5. RPI's No. 3 doubles tandem of Erica Frommer and Emily Aaldenberg pulled the home team to within one with a 9-8 (8-6) win.

The Brewers clinched the match by winning the first three singles matches that were completed. Connie Yoo won at No. 6, Becker at No. 4 and Christiansen at No. 1. The Engineers battled to win the final two matches with sophomore Melanie Frank winning a three-set match, 6-2, 2-6, 10-4, and senior Emily Laurilliard, who was playing her final match for Rensselaer, doing the same at No. 2, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.
