LGR! Golf Tournament (May 8)
GENEVA, N.Y. - Sophomore
Mailani Neal won in straight sets at No. 4 singles, but that was the only victory for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team, which dropped a Liberty League match at William Smith College, 8-1. The loss puts the Engineers at 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Herons, ranked No. 20 in the Northeast Region, clinch a spot in the league tournament with the win. They are now 4-3 in the league and 10-6 overall.
Trailing 5-0 after losses in doubles and at No. 3 and No. 1 singles, Neal put Rensselaer in the win column with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kate Foley, a first year student. The final two matches went the distance, but neither
Angelika Rothberg at No. 6 nor
Makenzi Herbst at No. 5 could pull out wins.
Rensselaer concludes its season on Sunday with a home match against Union College on Sharp Courts. The action begins at 11am.
