NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team won the top two doubles matches and each of the first three seeds in singles to defeat SUNY New Paltz, 6-3, in a non-league match. The dual match was the first of the season for the Engineers and the win is the first in the RPI career of new head coach Justin Roe.

Junior Mailani Neal  won at first singles, 6-3, 6-4, and first doubles, teaming with sophomore Tess Lubin for an 8-5 victory. Lubin won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1 and junior Andrea Valencia captured No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-0.

The win in doubles by Neal and Lubin put the Engineers in front, 2-1, heading into singles competition. Valencia made it 3-1, but the Hawks tied the match at 3-3 with wins at Nos. 5 and 4. Lubin put RPI in front for good, followed by wins from Makenzi Herbst at No. 6 and Neal at No. 1.
