LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. -
Sean O'Connor ran an opening mile of 4:57.0 and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) senior went on to win the 400-person 4th Annual Rowan Interregional Border Battle held at D.R.E.A.M. Park. The victory is the third in three meets for O'Connor, who helped the No. 2 Engineers to a third place finish in the event, which featured 42 schools, including six nationally-ranked programs, over an 8K course.
O'Connor averaged 5:01.8 per mile and crossed with a time of 25:00.1, which was nearly two seconds ahead of the runner-up (25:02.7).
Second on Rensselaer was senior
Grant O'Connor, who was eighth overall with a time of 25:14.7, including an opening mile of 4:56.9. He was just over a second from seventh place, trailing Josh Kalapos of No. 7 Carnegie Mellon, who ran a 25:13.6.
Junior
Noah Falasco was third for RPI and 29th overall with a time of 25:38.1 with teammate
Henry Jaques in 31st in 25:39.0. Bradley Farnham of No. 13 SUNY Geneseo split the teammates with his time of 25:38.1. Jacob Davis was fifth for Rensselaer with a finishing time of 25:47.0.
Johns Hopkins, which is ranked No. 10 in Division III, won the team title with 80 points, followed by Geneseo (95), RPI (106), Carnegie Mellon (151) and Oneonta (164).
RPI is back on the course in two weeks when it competes for the Liberty League Championship at Clarkson University (1pm).
