Season Preview Video
TROY, N.Y. - Eleven student-athletes won at least once, including two who boasted four victories, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), 203-96, in the first meet of the season for both teams.
Seniors
John Alberta and
Noah Pan both won two individual events and were part of a pair of first place relays to lead the Engineers. Junior
Graham Zola added three victories, including two relays.
Pan,
Charly Blazy, Zola and Alberta put Rensselaer in front with a victory in the meet-opening 200 medley relay, which finished in 1:36.13. The trio of Pan, Zola and Alberta, along with freshman
Jonathen Yang, finished the afternoon with a win in the 400 free relay (3:13.97). In between, RPI had 13 wins.
Zola won the 200 freestyle (1:47.37), Pan won the 100 backstroke (52.98) and 200 backstroke (2:00.14) and Alberta captured the 50 free (21.80) and 100 free (47.40). Freshman
Alex Aung also had a pair of wins, touching the wall first in the 200 butterfly (1:58.68) and 100 butterfly (52.30). Yang also had an individual win in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.05).
The Engineers, who won off of both diving boards, return to competition on October 27 in a dual meet at Ithaca College (2pm).
