SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team traveled to area-rival Skidmore College with a two-game winning streak, but the Engineers were unable to extend it as they fell to the Thoroughbreds, 2-1 in double overtime. Senior goalkeeper Rachel Kaufman made 20 saves for RPI, which is now 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League. Skidmore improves to 5-6 and 1-2.

Kaufman, who backstopped wins over St. Lawrence University (3-2) and Utica College (2-1) on Saturday and Tuesday, respectively, had eight saves in the first half, nine in the second, three in the first overtime and one in the second extra session. Emma Lewis had a defensive save for the Engineers.

Skidmore, which got six saves from Elizabeth Coughlin, won the game in the 85th minute when Marissa Folts found an open Mariah Redler in front of the cage, where she shot it past the defense and into the goal. Folts earned the assist after she carried the ball into the zone and drew Kaufman out of the cage. The pass to Redler was on the mark and she scored despite Rensselaer's attempts at a defensive save.

After the Thoroughbreds had taken a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, RPI's Mikaela DiBello scored her seventh of the season in the 24th minute on a hard shot off a loose ball from 10 yards out. The senior now has goals in three straight games and five of the last six contests.

The Engineers play next on Tuesday when Middlebury College, the defending national champions and No. 1-ranked team in Division III, visits Harkness Field in Troy.
