Men's Hockey and UMass Lowell Meet For Two This Weekend

Engineers visit River Hawks Friday (4pm), before hosting them Sunday (4pm)

HOLIDAY WEEKEND SERIES 
Rensselaer takes on UMass Lowell in a home-and-home series this weekend, visiting the River Hawks on Friday (4pm), before hosting them on Sunday (4pm) for Faculty-Staff Appreciation Day. The Engineers have seven non-league games on their schedule following Sunday's contest.

ENGINEERS FALL AT PRINCETON 
The Tigers scored three goals in the first period en route to a 4-1 win on November 10. Ryan Kuffner registered a game-high four points on two goals and two assists, while RPI junior Patrick Polino netted the Engineers' only tally. Linden Marshall had 20 saves, before giving way to Owen Savory, who stopped 19 of 20 over the final 36:55 of the game.

BOBCATS SHUT OUT RPI 
Andrew Shortridge stopped all 12 shots he faced and Quinnipiac scored once in each period to top the Engineers 3-0 on November 9 in Hamden, Conn. ... Linden Marshall had 35 stops for RPI ... Chase Priskie scored a goal and assisted on another for the Bobcats.

RPI LEADERS
Junior Jacob Hayhurst (1 goal, 10 assists) has a team-best 11 points ... Classmate Patrick Polino (3 goals, 1 assist) has four points, while six others have three, including sophomore Donovan Ott (2 goals, 1 assist) and freshman Ottoville Leppanen (2 goals, 1 assist).

BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore Linden Marshall (3-6-0) has a 3.65 goals against average and a .895 save percentage as the starter in each of RPI's nine games ... Freshman Owen Savory made his collegiate debut in the season opener at UMass, stopping 8 of 9 shots in the third period ... He has a 2.12 goals against average and an .931 save percentage in two appearances.

ALL-TIME VS. UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks lead the all-time series 13-10-1, dating back to the first ever meeting on December 30, 1982 – an 8-6 Engineers win at the Houston Field House ... Neither team has won more than three consecutive games in the series, but UMass Lowell take a three-game run into the weekend.

RECENTLY
UMass Lowell is 5-1 over the last six meetings, with RPI's lone victory coming on December 16, 2006 – a 2-1 win at the Houston Field House ... The River Hawks have won two straight at home against the Engineers.

The River Hawks were victorious in the most recent meeting, winning 5-1 on January 3, 2017, in Troy ... The River Hawks scored the first four goals of the game, before Viktor Liljegren pulled the Engineers to within 4-1 late in the second period ... John Edwards capped the scoring for the visitors in the third ... Nick Master (goal, assist) and Jake Kamrass (goal, assist) paced the River Hawks with two points apiece ... Chase Perry had 32 saves for RPI, while Tyler Wall also turned away 32.

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
Coming off a weekend sweep of UConn, UMass Lowell is paced by junior Kenny Hausinger (5 goals, 4 assists) with nine points ... Classmate Ryan Lohin (5 goals, 3 assists) and senior Ryan Dmowski (4 goals, 4 assists) have eight points each ... Sophomore Connor Sodergren (1 goal, 6 assists) has seven.

LOWELL IN GOAL
Junior Tyler Wall (4-3-1) has a 1.74 goals against average and a .938 save percentage in eight games, while senior Christoffer Hernberg (2-2-0) has a 2.98 goals against average and an .880 save percentage in four games.

FIRST GOALS
Freshman Jakub Lacka netted his first collegiate goal just 15 minutes into his first game, scoring on the power play in the first period at UMass on October 12 ... He added his second goal the following evening at the Houston Field House ... Freshman Ottoville Leppanen and Ture Linden each potted their first collegiate goals against No. 11 Union on October 26 – a 5-3 victory at the Houston Field House.

FIRST POINTS
Rookie defenseman Kyle Hallbauer earned his first collegiate point – an assist – against the Minutemen on October 12 in Amherst ... Classmates Brady Ferner and Jake Johnson each picked up their first collegiate assists against Union on October 27.

PENALTY KILL IMPROVEMENT
After going 3 for 7 in the season-opener at UMass, the Engineers have killed off 34 of 40 chances shorthanded, including 13 of 14 against the Union Dutchmen on October 26 and 27 ... RPI's 85.0% on the kill is second in ECAC Hockey.

HAYHURST'S HOT START
Junior Jacob Hayhurst registered at least one point in six of RPI's first seven games, including three multi-point contests ... He has been kept off the scoresheet over the last games, however, for the first time in the regular season since February 16 and 17, which was also the Princeton and Quinnipiac road trip.

HELPING HAND
Hayhurst's 10 assists rank sixth in the nation ... Three players are tied with 12, including Harvard's Adam Fox ... Quinnipiac senior Brandon Fortunato has 11, leaving Hayhurst at third among conference skaters.

POINT OF REFERENCE
Junior Jacob Hayhurst was the first RPI player to record a point in each of the team's first five games since Matt Neal in the 2012-13 season ... Neal collected three goals and six assists for nine points in five contests. 

TOP FACE-OFF MEN
The Engineers have won 49.1% of their faceoffs this season, led by junior Jacob Hayhurst at 55.6% ... Senior Brady Wiffen is second at 49.7%, while freshman Ture Linden rounds out the top three at 48.4%.

MISCELLANEOUS LEADERS
Freshman Jakub Lacka leads the Engineers with two power play goals, while junior Patrick Polino has the club's lone shorthanded tally ... Polino is scoring on 14.7% of his shots, which is tops on the team, while classmate TJ Samec has an RPI-best +1 rating ... Polino and freshman Ottoville Leppanen are both even for the season.

VS. RANKED TEAMS
The Engineers are 2-2-0 against teams ranked in the USCHO.com Top 20, sweeping then-No. 11 Union on October 26 and 27 ... RPI then dropped league games at then-No. 13 Quinnipiac and then-No. 18 Princeton on November 9 and 10.

CONFERENCE LEADERS
The Engineers lead ECAC Hockey in blocked shots (106) and penalties (37) ... RPI is second in shorthanded goals (1) and fourth in penalty kill (82.4%), while taking and killing off the most penalties in league play.
