LATHAM. N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match at 2-2, but the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team won four of the final five singles competition on its way to a 6-3 win over the Engineers in a Liberty League contest at Tri City Fitness. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for RPI, which is now 8-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The Saints improve to 3-8 and 2-0.
St. Lawrence won the first two doubles matches that were completed, but Rensselaer's No. 2 team of
Mailani Neal and
Tess Lubin won 9-7 to get the home team to within one.
Andrea Valencia then tied the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, but the Saints won the next three to clinch the win. Lubin followed with a win at No. 2, 6-4, 6-0, before SLU's Emily Wynan won at No. 1.
Rensselaer is idle until April 14 when it hosts Vassar College at noon.
