CONFERENCE ACTION
After taking a non-conference break at Williams on Wednesday, Rensselaer (13-7, 3-1 Liberty League) returns to Liberty League play as they play host to Rochester (7-10, 0-0 Liberty League) on Friday (3pm) and RIT (3-9, 0-0 Liberty League) on Saturday (1pm) in a set of home double headers at Doris Robison Field.
BREAK AT WILLIAMS
RPI faced their first nationally ranked opponent of the year when the Engineers traveled to No. 13 Williams on Wednesday afternoon… the Ephs took the first game in six innings with a final score of 13-2… Williams then completed the sweep in game two with 5-0 victory… Rensselaer was led by sophomore
Veronica DeStefano who went a combined 4-for-five with a .800 batting average and .833 OBP.
LEAGUE OPENERS
The Engineers went 3-1 with a sweep over Ithaca and a split at Union… RPI upset the Bombers 6-1 in the first game followed by a 5-0 victory in game two… sophomore
Allie Hunt went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, two RBI's a run and a 1.333 slugging percentage… In the second series with Union, Rensselaer took the first game 9-0 in six innings while dropping the second game 6-5 a walk-off double… freshman
Kyla Anderson led the Engineers on offense going 5-for-6 with two RBI's, one run and a .833 slugging percentage… senior
Sarah Harms (9-4) paced the pitching staff with a 0.00 ERA on the weekend with a 2-1 record over 13.0 innings. The senior recorded seven strikeouts while holding Ithaca and Union to a .209 batting average.
WEEKLY AWARDS
Harms and Anderson were both selected as the Liberty League and ECAC Softball Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
THE YELLOW JACKETS
Rochester is coming off a Wednesday non-conference sweep of Utica… the Yellow Jackets took game one 3-1 followed by a 3-2 victory in game two… Jocelynn Blackshear paced the Rochester offense going a combined 4-for-8 with one run and one double… in the circle, Hannah Leahy (4-7) was credited with the complete game win in the first matchup while picking up the save in game two… the freshman combined for three strikeouts with one earned run over 8.0 innings of play.
THE TIGERS
RIT played against a nationally ranked team for the first time on Wednesday when the Tigers traveled to No. 11 St. John Fisher… the Cardinals took game one in a 1-0 nail bitter while RIT pulled off the 4-2 upset in game two… the Tigers' Laura Weintraub hit a three-run home run to lead the RIT offense… Tori Adler (2-2) was credited with the complete game win with one strikeout and one earned run against.
SERIES HISTORY WITH U of R
Rochester holds a 26-25 advantage in the overall series… the last two series have ended in splits… the last time the Yellow Jackets took two at Doris Robison was on Apr. 26, 2009 while the Engineers swept Rochester at home last on Apr. 27, 2003… over the last five seasons, RPI has gone 6-11 against the Yellow Jackets.
SERIES HISTORY WITH RIT
The Engineers have been 18-4 against the Tigers in the overall series with an 11-1 conference record… RPI is undefeated at home against RIT, however, the last meeting between the sides in Rochester favored the Tigers in a 3-1 final.
