SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team posted two wins in doubles before capturing three singles matches to defeat Union College, 5-4, in a Liberty League contest on Tuesday evening. The Engineers improve to 10-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference. They sit in fifth place and have clinched a conference playoff bid. The Dutchwomen fall to 5-9 and 1-7.
Rensselaer's No. 2 team of
Mailani Neal and
Tess Lubin earned an 8-4 win and the No. 3 tandem of
Makenzi Herbst and
Sasha Towe won by an 8-3 score. Herbst then won at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 7-5. Towe fell in dramatic fashion at No. 6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), (12-10).
RPI concludes the regular season on Sunday when William Smith College travels to Troy for a league match.
