Softball Ready to Host St. Lawrence for Senior Day

CLOSING WEEKEND
Rensselaer (21-9, 11-1 Liberty League) hosts St. Lawrence (11-13, 3-5 Liberty League) on senior day at Doris Robison Field on Saturday (1pm) to start the final weekend of the regular season… following the conference doubleheader, the Engineers, who received votes in the latest national poll for the second time this year, travel to Plattsburgh State on Sunday (1pm) for their final contest before the Liberty League Tournament.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to Saturday's doubleheader with the Saints, seniors Chelsea Elliott, Victoria Greco, Sarah Harms, Kacie Herity, Rebecca Kienz, Devan Puhl and Christine White will be recognized for their commitment to the RPI program.

WIN STREAK RECORD
RPI is currently on an eight-game conference win streak, the longest in program history… prior to the sweep, the longest conference win streak was seven games in 2014.

LIBERTY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
The Engineers have locked in a first place finish in the Liberty League standings… Rensselaer, the reigning conference champions, will host the Liberty League Tournament for the second year in a row… the top-four teams in the conference will compete for the league title and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on May 3-5.

LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL
Rensselaer went 4-0 in conference play last week with home sweeps over Clarkson and Skidmore… in the first series with Clarkson, the Engineers won 7-1 followed by an 11-1 in a five inning victory in the nightcap… sophomore Veronica DeStefano led RPI with four hits, five runs, three RBI's and three stolen bases… adding to DeStefano's effort were White ( 4-for-8, four RBI's, one run) and Kienz (4-for-6, four stolen bases, two runs)... in the second sweep over Skidmore, sophomore Steph Cavallaro hit a walkoff triple in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 3-2 victory in game one; RPI went on to win game two 5-2… Cavallaro was a combined 2-for-6 with a triple, double, RBI and run, while White was 4-for-7 with three RBI's and one double… pitchers Harms and Jaime Cleasby were each 2-0 and 11 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .217 batting average… Harms recorded a career-high seven K's against Clarkson with two complete games over 16.0 innings and a 1.69 ERA… Cleasby also threw two complete games over 12.0 innings with a 2.25 ERA.

WEEKLY AWARDS
For the third week in a row and fourth time this season, Harms was named the Liberty League Pitcher of the Week.

TROUBLE AT MIDDLEBURY
A game two, walk off single sealed the non-conference sweep for Middlebury; the Panthers took game one 3-0 while winning the second game 1-0… Kienz recorded RPI's only hit in game one while sophomore Allie Hunt led the Engineer offense with a one out, triple in game two… Cleasby gave up four hits with two strikeouts over 6.1 innings before giving up the eventual game-winning single.

THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence, who is currently fifth in the Liberty League, played three straight days of conference doubleheaders, going 3-3 against Skidmore, Rochester and RIT… the Saints were led on offense by Myles Mann who was a combined 11-for-20 with nine RBI's, five runs, two home runs, one double and one sacrifice hit… in the circle St. Lawrence was paced by Allie Courtwright and Madison Mitchell… Courtwright was 1-1 in 13.2 innings with one save, 10 strikeouts and a 3.07 ERA… meanwhile, Mitchell was 1-0 over 13.1 innings with 17 K's and a 2.62 ERA.

SERIES HISTORY WITH ST. LAWRENCE
Rensselaer holds the advantage in the series going 32-7 overall with a 28-6 conference record against St. Lawrence… the Engineers are 15-5 when playing the Saints at Doris Robison Field… RPI is 9-2 against St. Lawrence over the past five years with the last five contests favoring the Engineers… the last matchup in Troy favored Rensselaer with 10-2 and 8-0 wins in Apr. 2017… the last time St. Lawrence beat RPI at Doris Robison Field was in a 1-0 victory on Apr. 19, 2015… the Saints have never swept the Engineers.
