ITHACA, N.Y. – In a new expanded championship format, six men's teams and six women's teams will compete for the Liberty League tennis championships this Friday-Sunday, May 4-6. Matches will take place at both the Wheeler Tennis Courts at Ithaca College and the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University. The top two teams for both men and women earn first-round byes. Two quarterfinal matches will be held on Friday, May 4, two semifinals on May 5 and the championship match on May 6 for each gender. The championship teams receive the Liberty League's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
WEATHER UPDATE: Due to the forecast of rain on Friday, all matches will be held indoors at the Reis Tennis Center.

ABOUT THE TEAMS:
#1 SKIDMORE (13-5 overall, 8-0 Liberty League)
- The Thoroughbreds have won seven straight Liberty League titles and 13 in the 22-year history of the league. Skidmore also won the league's first six championships.
- Skidmore is ranked 18th nationally and ninth in the Northeast region in the latest ITA Division III poll.
- First-year player Risa Fukushige has ascended to the top spot in the Thoroughbred singles lineup and is currently 7-2 at the number-on position.
- Skidmore went 48-0 in Liberty League singles play and 24-0 in doubles play, winning all eight matches by 9-0 scores.
#2 VASSAR (13-5 overall, 7-1 Liberty League)
- The Brewers won eight straight Liberty League titles from 2003 to 2010.
- Vassar is currently ranked 29th nationally and 11th in the Northeast region in the latest ITA Division III poll.
- First-year player Frances Cornwall is currently 13-7 in singles play including a combined record of 7-5 at first and second singles.
- Senior Courtney Geiss is the team's co-leader with 16 singles victories including a 7-1 mark in Liberty League play.
#3 ST. LAWRENCE (9-10, 6-2 Liberty League)
- The Saints, ranked 18th in the ITA Northeast region, have won seven of their last nine matches after opening the season with a 2-8 record.
- First-year player Caroline Reilly is the team's co-leader with 15 singles victories including a 9-5 mark at fourth singles.
- Seniors Lia Petersen and Emily Wyman teamed up for a team-best 11 doubles victories.
#4 WILLIAM SMITH (11-6, 4-3 Liberty League)
- The Herons, ranked 20th in the ITA Northeast Region, .
- Senior Michaelann Denton and first-year Dina Rigas have compiled a 10-6 record at first doubles.
- Sophomore Kate Foley has 10-5 singles mark including an 8-4 dual match record while player first, second and third singles.
#5 RIT (10-6, 4-4 Liberty League)
- RIT, in its seventh year as a Liberty League member, earned its first league tournament berth since teams began qualifying to the league tournament through regular-season play.
- Junior Amelia Ying tied an RIT single-season record with 13 dual match singles victories, going 13-3 at first singles.
- Ying and sophomore Shayna Ginster have combined for a 12-4 record at first doubles, including 6-2 in Liberty League play.
#6 RPI (10-5, 3-4 Liberty League)
- The Engineers earned 5-4 victories over Ithaca and Union in their final two matches to clinch a spot in the Liberty League tournament. RPI has no seniors on its roster.
- Sophomore Tess Lubin has a team-best 14-7 singles mark including an 11-4 dual match record.
- RPI has a combined 20-10 dual-match record at first and second doubles with Lubin and Mailani Neal combining for a 7-4 dual match doubles mark.
