LATHAM, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team played its first dual match of the season and the Engineers dropped a close contest to Oneonta, 5-4, at Tri City Fitness. While the Engineers fall to 0-1, the Red Dragons improve to 6-0.
RPI, which had a match rained out last week, jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a win by
Nisha Rajamohan and
Andrea Valencia at No. 2 doubles, but the Red Dragons captured the other two heading into singles.Â
Valencia tied things up with a straight sets win at No. 4 and freshman
Sanjana Surapeneni put the home team in front 3-2 with a win at No. 5. However, Oneonta won two of the final three matches, including a third set tiebreaker at No. 6, for the victory.Â
