SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team began it's 2018-19 schedule at the Union College Invitational on Saturday, coming away with five singles victories and five doubles victories.
A pair of freshmen, Sofia Khudyakov and
Sanjana Surapeneni, both won their first round singles matches in the "A" bracket and will meet one another in the final should they both win their semifinal matches. The duo also won its first doubles match before falling int he semifinal.
Advancing to the final of the "A" doubles was seniors
Mailani Neal and
Nisha Rajamohan, who defeated opponents from Holy Cross in the first round and Union in the semis.
Rensselaer had a pair of singles victories in the "B" flight with freshman Junjya Lyu and junior
Tess Lubin winning. Lyu and
Brenda Peng won their first doubles match, but fell in the semifinals and will play for third place on Sunday morning.
Freshman
Elise White captured her "D" flight first round match to remain alive for that championship.
Sunday's action begins at 9am with doubles competition followed by two rounds of singles.
