SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to competition for the first time since December 2 and neither team exhibited any affects of the long break as they defeated Union College, 221-77 and 172-126, respectively. RPI's men's team is now 5-0 while the women are 4-1. The Dutchmen are 1-4 and the Dutchwomen are 2-3.

The Engineers men won all 12 of the individual swimming events and both relays on its way to its 114-point win. Four student-athletes had multiple individual wins, including John Alberta in the 50 free and 100 free, Trevor Maxfield in the 200 free and 500 free, Nicos Prokopiou in the 100 back and 200 back, and Alex Aung in the 200 fly and 100 fly. Aung also swam on the first place 200 medley relay team, while Alberta was the anchor on the 200 free relay team that was first to touch the wall.

Rensselaer's women had seven individuals earn victory with Kaitlin Joyce winning twice (200 free, 50 free) and Jessica Kugelman capturing first off of both diving boards. Megan Beaulieu won the 100 back, Caitlyn Gardiner won the 100 breast, Emily Mayoras was first in the 100 free, Amanda Wang won the 200 back and Kat Lopez captured the 200 breast. Beaulieu and Joyce were also part of the winning 200 free relay team, while Wang, Gardiner, Beaulieu and Joyce started things off with a win in the 200 medley relay.

Both the women's and men's teams were scheduled to host the Annual RPI Kumpf Invitational on Saturday, but the meet has been canceled due to an impending snow storm.
