TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men's swimming & diving team extended perfect record in dual meets, while the women won for the fifth straight time after the Engineers swept Skidmore College at Robison Pool. RPI is now a combined 11-1 in dual meets, including 6-0 by the men, who posted a 185-75 win over the Thoroughbreds. The women won with a score of 193-98.
The 200 medley relay team of Emily Mayoras, Kat Lopez, Amanda Wang and Megan Beaulieu narrowly defeated another foursome from Rensselaer - Molly Jones, Rebecca Baione, Kiera Wilson and Gwyneth Yuen, 1:42.01-1:42.02, to put the Engineers in front by 13 points after the first event. The men also captured 13 of the first 15 points, led by the victorious squad of
John Alberta,
Charly Blazy,
Graham Zola and
Noah Pan, who touched in 1:38.37.Kugelman made her 2nd cut for NCAA which qualifies her for regionals
Following a win by Skidmore in the women's 1000 free, the Engineers rattled off seven straight victories, including Mayoras and Alberta in the 200 free, Wang and Pan in the 100 backstroke and Baione and Blazy in the 100 breast.
Kaitlin Joyce and Zola both earned nine points by winning their 50 free events and Joyce and Alberta followed with wins in the 100 free by nearly two and six seconds, respectively. RPI went on to win each of the final 10 individual swimming events, highlighted by victories from
Nicos Prokopiou in the 200 back by nearly nine seconds, Caitlyn Gardiner in the 200 breast by more than seven seconds and
Eric Liu in the 200 breast by almost eight seconds.
Jennie King picked up her first collegiate win in the 500 free, while Maxfield was the first to touch in the men's 500 free. Lopez and Zola won in the 100 fly, while Wang and
Steven Yu captured their respective 200 IMs.
In diving, junior Jessica Kugelman won from both 1-meter and 3-meter, including registering her second NCAA-cut score to qualify for the Regional Championship. RPI's
Jesse Rotering (3-meter) and Matt Dineen (1-meter) also earned wins in diving.
The Engineers are back at Robison Pool next Saturday when they host Hamilton College in their final dual meets of the season.
