Story Links

CASTLETON, Vt. - Freshman Kaitlin Bardellini scored three goals and added two assists to lead the Castleton University field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a non-league game at Dave Wolk Stadium. The attack now has 10 goals and five assists for 25 points in nine games.

Bardellini put the Spartans in front with a pair of first quarter goals. Her first came at 4:50 off an assist from Loretta Blakeney and her second was unassisted at 10:58. Junior Gabriella Hunt made it 3-0 when she finished a feed from Bardellini early in the second quarter.

Rensselaer (0-9) and Castleton (5-4) both had three penalty corners in the first half, while the Spartans held an 11-6 edge in shots.

The second half saw the Engineers double up their hosts in penalty corners (6-3) and trail by only two shots (10-8), but Castleton found the back of the cage three more times. Bardellini, Allison Lowell and Blakeney each tallied.

Tashia Pashby-Rockwood finished with seven saves for the victory, while freshman Jen Richardson made nine saves for RPI.
