TROY, N.Y. - Senior
Graham Zola boasted four victories and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team exhibited its depth in defeating Ithaca College 202-98 in its home opener.
Zola helped the 200 medley relay team to victory to start the day, swimming anchor on a squad that also included
Nicos Prokopiou,
Jonathan Yang and
Lorenzo Gurri.
Matthew Youngbar followed with a 15-second win in the 1000 free and
Trevor Maxfield captured the 200 free. Prokopiou, a junior, won the 100 back and Yang took the 100 breast.
Alex Aung was first in the 200 fly and Zola earned victories in both the 50 free and 100 free, the latter by nearly two seconds. Prokopiou had his third win of the afternoon with a 200 backstroke victory before
Eric Liu edged Yang in the 200 breast, 2:11.21 to 2:11.24.
The second win of the day for Youngbar came in the 500 free, four seconds in front of Maxfield. Gurri won the 100 fly before placing second to
Tony Min in the 200 IM.
In the meet finale, the 400 free relay, Yang, Maxfield,
Steven Yu and Zola touched in 3:12.81 for the victory.
RPI competes again on November 9 when they face Vassar College in a dual match at 1pm.
