Field Hockey Bested by St. Lawrence in Canton

CANTON, N.Y. - Mary Clark scored two goals in a span of 56 seconds, and Mckenzie Haberl scored a goal and added three assists to lead the St. Lawrence University field hockey team to a 4-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Sunday afternoon on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium.

Haberl set up Clark's first goal in the ninth minute of the contest, swinging a pass out wide to the left side, and Clark redirected the ball into the net for her second goal of the season.

Less than a minute later, Haberl collected a loose ball after her shot was stopped by RPI goaltender Jen Richardson and once again sent it to the left post, where Clark pushed the ball past a defender and into the cage.

Maggie Green gave the Saints a 3-0 lead early in the second half, taking a pass from Haberl on the right side and beating a diving Richardson for her second goal of the season.

Charisse Stakutis cut the Saints' lead to two halfway through the fourth quarter, scoring on a breakaway on a feed from Brianna Duba, but Haberl put the game away, sweeping the ball into the net with a reverse hit with less than two minutes to play.

The Saints had a 26-22 edge in total shots and a 17-7 advantage in shots on goal. Sydney Giacin made five saves in the victory for St. Lawrence, while Richardson stopped 13 shots for the Engineers.

St. Lawrence improved to 5-11 overall and 2-5 in the Liberty League, while RPI fell to 0-16, 0-7. The Engineers wrap up the 2019 season with a non-league game on Saturday against Oneonta (12pm).
