Abbey Salvon and sophomore
Bri Zipprich each netted three goals to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a 19-4 victory over Bridgewater College, on Wednesday at Bluffton Center. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-0, while the Eagles drop to 0-5.
After Bridgewater netted the game's first goal 1:17 into the contest, the Engineers rattled off eight straight, over a 15-minute span, to take control of the game. Seniors
Maddy Aslansan and
Erin Goodwin each scored twice during the run, which gave RPI an 8-1 with 11:31 to play in the opening half.
Rensselaer closed out the first 30 with a 4-2 scoring run for a 12-3 lead, culminating with three straight tallies by freshman
Sabrina Torcellini, junior Becca DeRosa and senior
Lauren Guiry.
Senior
Michelle Bolger opened the second half with a goal three minutes in, which was answered by one from the Eagles, cutting the lead to 13-4.
RPI then held Bridgewater scoreless over the final 23 minutes, while tallying three four themselves. Aslansan finished with two goals, two assists, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore
Nora Molino was dominant on the draw, collecting 11 DCs to go along with four ground balls.
In goal, senior
Aleena Milinski (3-0) made eight saves and had one ground ball, while junior
Maya Manchester had five stops in relief.
The Engineers return to action on March 16, when they open Liberty League play at Clarkson University (12pm). Bridgewater hosts Transylvania on March 14 (4pm).
