Women's Tennis Headed Home After a 7-2 Win

ORLANDO, Fla. - Sanjana Surapaneni, Nisha Rajamohan and Andrea Valencia all had two victories to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team to a 7-2 win over the University of Scranton in the team's final match on its Spring Break trip. The Engineers, who played eight matches in the Sunshine State (4-4), return to Troy with an overall record of 6-5. They played Division II Minnesota State Moorhead to start the day and lost to the Dragons, 4-3. 

Against Scranton, RPI fell behind with a loss at No. 3 doubles, but then won the next two matches for a 2-1 lead. Rajamohan and Valencia partnered up at No. 2 and won in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-2). The Royals (4-1) tied the match with a win in singles, but Rensselaer captured the final five matches for the victory. Valencia won at No. 3, Rajamohan won at No. 4 and Surapaneni won at No. 1.

The Dragons earned the doubles point - the team's played Division II rules - and then held off the Engineers, 4-3. RPI got wins from Junjia Lyu at No. 3 singles, Valencia at No. 5 and Rajamohan at No. 6, but it was not enough. Minnesota State Moorhead improved to 11-3 with the victory.
