TROY, N.Y. - Eight different student-athletes had at least one victory and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team defeated Union College 8-1 in a Liberty League contest on Sharp Courts. The No. 35 Engineers improve to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference, while the Dutchmen fall to 5-7 and 2-4.
RPI opened with three wins in doubles, including an 8-1 victory at No. 3 by
Clay Thompson and
Brian Niguidula. Thompson went on to win at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-0) with
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez (6-2, 6-2) and
Andrew Imrie (6-3, 6-0) also picking up their second wins of the day.Â
Freshman
Yudai Teruyama won at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1) and classmate
Eddie Wu captured No. 5 (6-1, 6-1).
Rensselaer closes out the regular season with matches at No. 33 Hobart College on Friday (4pm) and Ithaca College on Saturday (2pm).
