GENEVA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles and then won five of six singles matches in defeating Hobart College 7-2 on Friday inside Bristol Field House. The No. 35 Engineers move to 8-6 overall and 6-1 in the Liberty League, while the No. 33 Statesmen fall to 10-6 and 4-2.

The Engineers led 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play thanks to wins by
Brian Niguidula and
Clay Thompson over Jonathan Atwater and Colin Molloy at No. 3 (8-2) and Zach Ebenfeld and
Dylan Payne over Thomas Shung and Jack Ledford at No. 2 (8-6). Hobart sophomore Walker Anderson and junior Alan Dubrovsky notched a win at No. 1 over
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and
Andrew Imrie, 8-6.

Rensselaer clinched the match in singles play. Atwater won his sixth consecutive match in singles, besting Thompson 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2. Shung fell to freshman
Yudai Teruyama 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot, Castillo-Sanchez defeated Dubrovsky 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, Niguidula bested Ledford 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot, Imrie beat Anderson at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2, and Payne beat Molloy 7-5, 7-6 (7-6) at No. 6.
