GENEVA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's tennis team posted a dozen victories and have three individuals and two doubles teams alive in the ITA Northeast Regional Championship. Action continues on Saturday morning and goes throughout the day.
Senior
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez, sophomore
Yudai Teruyama and freshman
Abraham Yohannes all advanced to the Round of 16 in singles, while Castillo-Sanchez and
Andrew Imrie and
Dylan Payne and
Zack Ebenfeld are still competing in doubles.
The No. 3 seed, Castillo-Sanchez won his singles matches by 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 scores. He faces an opponent from NYU on Saturday morning. Teruyama, who is also seeded, had wins of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2 to move on to face a foe from Skidmore. Yohannes had a first round victory of 7-6, 6-0 and a second round win of 6-4, 6-1 and will take on a competitor from TCNJ.
In doubles, Castillo-Sanchez and Imrie, who lost in the second round of singles, won 8-1 and 8-6 and will face a tandem from Skidmore. Payne and Ebenfeld had wins of 8-4 and 8-4 to earn the opportunity to play a team from Rochester.
The tournament is being hosted by Hobart College.
