GENEVA, N.Y. - Senior
Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez won a pair of matches to advance to Sunday's ITA Regional Tournament Semifinals, staying alive with two straight set wins. The No. 3 seed, he beat an opponent from NYU 6-0, 6-4 in the Round of 16 before knocking off a foe from Hobart 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Castillo-Sanchez plays Alper Kulturel of Skidmore College in the semfinals.
RPI had two other singles players in the Round of 16, though both
Yudai Teruyama (6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-3)) and Abraham Yohaness (6-3, 6-1) were defeated.
In doubles, Rensselaer went 1-1 in the quarterfinals with Castillo-Sanchez and
Andrew Imrie winning 8-4, but
Dylan Payne and
Zack Ebenfeld losing 8-3. The Engineers duo was then defeated in the semifinals 8-6.
The ITA Tournament is being hosted by Hobart College.
