CLINTON, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving team won 10 individual events and both relays on its way to setting a season-high in points in a 210.5 - 82.5 victory over Hamilton College on Saturday. The dual meet was the last one of the season for RPI, which improved to 8-0. The Continentals drop to 5-2.
Senior
Graham Zola had two individual victories and was part of two first place relays. He swam first on the 200 medley relay and anchor on the 200 free relay while winning the 50 free and 100 free in between. He was joined on the 200 medley by
Jonathan Yang,
Alex Aung and
Harrison Bass, while Yang,
Tony Min and
Aleksey Makarov also participated in the 200 free relay.
Other multiple winners for Rensselaer, in addition to Zola and Yang, was Aung, who captured the 100 fly,
Nicos Prokopiou and
Alex Chused. Prokopiou won the 100 back, edging Bass, and the 200 backstroke, while Chused won from both diving boards.
Individual winners for the Engineers were
Trevor Maxfield in the 1000 free - RPI had the top four in the event -
Lorenzo Gurri in the 200 fly and
Andy Palmer in the 500 free. A freshman, Palmer was second to Maxfield in the 1000 free.
Rensselaer's next action for its swimmers is the Liberty League Championship, which takes place February 19-22. The divers are scheduled to compete in the RPI Diving Invitational on February 8.
