TROY, N.Y. - For the second time this semester, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Morgan Lee has been selected as the Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week by the Liberty League. She was previously honored on September 27.
This week's award comes after Lee (Edgewater, MD / South River), a junior in her first season with the team, ran 16th in the Caroline Grape '22 Memorial Blue Race hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday. There were 207 competitors from 26 schools in the race, which covered 6k. She had a 10:00.3 for the first 2.8k and a 12:28.2 over the final 3.8 to finish in 22:28.50, which was only one second behind teammate and classmate
Nia Goddard (Malvern, PA / Conestoga). She was three second in front of the 17th place finisher. As a team, the Engineers were 10th overall with 284 points.
Lee, a former field hockey player, was previously honored after she finished third overall in the 70-competitor field at the Saratoga Invitational with a 6k time of 23:19.0. She was 30 seconds in front of the fourth place finisher, averaging 6:16 per mile. She trailed Goddard, the winner, by eight seconds and the runner-up by only three. Rensselaer won with 31 points, which was 21 points ahead of the runner-up.
Rensselaer is off next weekend and then hosts the Liberty League Championship on October 30 at Saratoga Spa State Park.
