CANTON, N.Y. - The St. Lawrence University field hockey team scored two goals late to earn a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Saturday morning at North Country Field. With the win, the Saints improve to 6-4 overall (1-1 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 2-6 (1-1 Liberty League).
After a scoreless first half, the Engineers were the first to score midway through the third quarter. Off of a penalty corner,
Delana Bonci shuffled a short pass to her right to
Jessie House, who slapped a bouncing shot into the back of the cage.
Five minutes later, the Saints evened the score off of a penalty corner of their own. Mckenzie Haberl sent the ball to the top of the circle, where Mary Clark took a settling touch before shooting the ball to the far corner. It was Clark's second goal of the season, and Haberl's fourth assist.
Just after the fourth quarter restart, Haberl drew the Engineer keeper high in her own crease, before Marlee Paterson slid the ball past her. A deflection took the ball shoulder level, where Jenny L'Hommedieu smacked it into the goal for her fourth goal of the season.
RPI looked to even the score, and had five penalty corners in the final three minutes, but was unable to get it through the Saints' defense.
