Nine Players Score in Field Hockey Victory

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team scored five goals in the second quarter and went on to score four more in the second half to defeat Manhattanville College 9-0 in a non-league contest at Harkness Field.

Nine different players scored for RPI, which improves to 3-6. The Valiants drop to 0-12.

After a scoreless first quarter, Lauren Roy put the Engineers in front at 2:55 of the second quarter when she swept a pass from Jesse House along the turf and into the back of the cage. Just 42 seconds later, Brianna Duba collected a Kaitlyn Stulen penalty corner insertion and fired a shot into the goal to double the lead. Duba's goal was her second of the season, while Roy's was her first.

Rachel Banister made it a three-goal game when she finished a feed from Holly Rohlffs, knocking the ball across the goal line with eight minutes left in the second quarter. House notched a goal when a loose ball found its way to her at the top of the circle and her blast eluded everyone. The fifth goal came on a turnaround shot by Nina Caprio, who picked up a rebound and lifted the ball into the top of the cage.

Abi Herrington got the first goal of the second half when she scored 1:49 into the third quarter on a drive from just inside the circle on the left side arc. Ava Richard scored less than two minutes later for her first of the season.

Rohlffs made it 8-0 when she deflected a long Dani Samuelson cross-field feed and Delana Bonci finished the scoring on a tap-in of a pass from Richard.

Rensselaer, which used two goalies, held a 22-4 advantage in shots and a 10-3 margin in penalty corners. The Engineers are back in action on Friday at 4pm against Nazareth College and Saturday at 10am versus Skidmore College.

Cat Morgan stopped six shots for Manhattanville, which plays Russell Sage College on Wednesday at 4:30pm.
