TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Associate Vice President & Director of Athletics
Dr. Lee McElroy has announced the hiring of Nicholas Karpovich as the Operations Coordinator. A native of Clifton Park, N.Y., he will work with the women's hockey program.
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Nicholas to the RPI Hockey family," said head coach
Bryan Vines. "He brings great experience in operations and running a first class program for our student-athletes. His professionalism, attention to detail and enthusiasm for RPI and our community make him a perfect fit for our staff."
Karpovich joins the Engineers after spending four years as the assistant manager for the Blake Ice Arena in Hopkins, Minn., where he oversaw day-to-day operations of the facility as well as organized game-day staff and was responsible for statistical entry for both boy and girls teams. He also worked in arena budgeting and the hiring of new staff members.
From 2015-17, he was the head equipment manager and director of game day operations for the University of Louisville ACHA team, handling all of the inventory, repair and distribution of the team's equipment. He also organized game day preparations, coordinating with opposing staff and was in charge of supervising interns and assigning them to different roles, including statistical tracking, filming, on bench staff and game clock operation.
While working at Louisville, Nick also was an ice operations technician and advertising manager at the Iceland Sports Complex in Louisville, Ken. He kept the ice and coordinated youth leagues, while maintaining the facility as a whole.
Karpovich began his career as an intern with the Adirondack Thunder front office in 2015, working in ticketing and promotions. He helped develop campaigns on multiple social media platforms and assembled event-specific memorabilia for the 35th anniversary of pro hockey in Glens Falls, N.Y.
A 2017 graduate of the University of Louisville, he earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in sports administration.
The Engineers, who are 2-4-0 (2-0-0 ECAC Hockey), are back in action this weekend, when they host Boston University and No. 9 Providence on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm).
