Goddard Wins League Meet; Team is Second

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Nia Goddard ran a 23:19.7 to earn first overall and the junior helped the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's cross country team to a second place finish at the Liberty League Championship, which was held at Saratoga Spa State Park. RPI had 62 points, which was narrowly behind St. Lawrence's victorious total of 58.

The Saints compiled 58 points with four of the team's top-five scorers finishing among the top 10. St. Lawrence was paced by a trio of first-year runners in Alli Sibold (5th), Billie McCloskey (8th) and Emma Palumbo (9th). They claimed their second conference championship since 2018, unseating the Engineers, who won in 2019, the most recent season the event was held.

RPI had two runners place among the top five to finish as the runner-up with Ithaca in third, seven 69 points and Vassar rounding out the top four teams with 84 points. The Brewers were followed by RIT (119 points), Clarkson (125), William Smith (225), Union (242) and Bard (256).

Goddard claimed the individual title; crossing the finish line first among the 108 competitors with a 6:16 per mile pace over the 6-kilometer course in 23:19.7. She won the event by nearly eight seconds.

Sasha Allison of Vassar finished second in the field with a time of 23:27.6, while RPI's Morgan Lee was third with a time of 23:34.0, a 6:20 pace.

Grace Brolly and Jillian Lees both had top 20 finishes for the Engineers, crossing in 24:45.9 (16th place) and 24:50.8 (18th), respectively.

The top 21 finishers earn All-Liberty League honors, which includes a first team, second team and honorable mention. The All-Liberty League First Team recognizes those that placed first through seventh while the All-Liberty League Second Team honors those that placed eighth through 14th. The honorable mention is for 15th through 21st place.
