WATERFORD, Conn. –
Nia Goddard boasted a seventh place finish with a 6k time of 22:20.3 and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's cross country placed seventh of 24 schools at the 2021 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship held at Harkness Park. The Engineers were only six points from seventh and nine from the sixth spot.
Goddard, a junior, was followed by classmate
Morgan Lee, who finished 22nd overall with a time of 22:51.4.
Grace Brolly, another junior, had a time of 23:46.8 to finish third on the squad and 47th in the field of 172 competitors.
Jillian Lees was 53rd with a 24:03.3 and
Eileen Beres was 85th with a time of 24:46.4.
Genna Girard of Williams College, the No. 6 team in Division III, won the event with a time of 21:36.0. Cassie Kearney of No. 15 Middlebury was second (21:46.1) and Mary Kate McGranahan of No.30 Amherst was third (21.50.5). The Ephs (90 points), Panthers (99) and Mammoths (102) finished in the top three.
Williams earned an automatic berth to next Saturday's NCAA Championship, while the other schools, as well as individuals, await Sunday's announcement for the at-large teams and the full field that will compete in Louisville, Ky.
