TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team has announced its captains for the 2021-22 season and senior
Mikayla Capelle will wear the "C" for the Engineers, with four players donning the "A," including
Lilli Friis-Hansen,
Marah Wagner,
Lauren Severson and
Delaney Weiss.
A senior forward from Dawson Creek, B.C., Capelle has played in all 17 games for the Engineers this season, compiling two goals and one assist for three points. She netted goals in back-to-back games against Union College and Boston University on October 9 and 22, respectively. For the season, she has 17 shots and is a -1 with one minor penalty for two minutes.
In 96 career games for the Engineers, Capelle has four goals and eight assists for 12 points. The former Okanagan Hockey School standout has two career power play goals.
A senior forward out of Lyngby, Denmark, Friis-Hansen is fourth on the Engineers with six points – all assists – while playing in 11 games so far this year. She has totaled nine shots and is a +6, with two minor penalties for four minutes. She had a multi-assist game against Union College on October 8 in Schenectady, while producing helpers in both of RPI's games last weekend against St. Cloud State.
Friis-Hansen, who missed six games this season helping the Danish National Team qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, has appeared in 81 career games for the Engineers, netting two goals with eight assists for 10 points. A former member of Gentofte Hockey Klub, she has four points (2 goals, 2 assists) in 36 games during the 2018-19 season.
A junior forward from Langley, B.C., Wagner is Rensselaer's leading scorer through 17 games this season, recording 12 points on six goals and six assists. She has one power-play and one shorthanded tally, while posting a -2 rating. Notching a team-high 45 shots, she has six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in eight ECAC Hockey contests.
Wagner has appeared in 78 career games between Robert Morris and RPI, scoring 14 goals and assisting on 13 more for 27 points.
A graduate student and forward who hails from Rockford, Ill., Severson is tied for third on the team with six points (2 goals, 4 assists), while playing in all 17 games this season. She has taken 39 shots, with an even rating, while being assessed four penalties for eight minutes.
Severson, who played with the Madison Capitals, has nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points in 110 career games with the Engineers.
Weiss is a junior defenseman from Lake Forest, Ill., who has played in all 17 games this year. She has one goal and four assists for five points, which ranks second among RPI blueliners. She has an even rating, with 17 shots and two penalties for 15 minutes.
In 49 career games, Weiss has collected one goal and eight assists for nine points.
RPI is back on the ice this weekend, when it visits Dartmouth and No. 9 Harvard on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm), respectively.
