HOBOKEN, N.J. - Senior Emily Franco stopped all four shots she faced to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a non-league field hockey game at DeBaun Athletic Complex. The Ducks improve to 3-2, while the Engineers drop to 1-4.
Franco was her busiest in the second quarter when she held RPI at bay on the three shots she faced to preserve what was a 1-0 lead at the time. She also had a stop in the fourth quarter with just under two minutes to play. She improves to 3-2 and improves her goals against average to 2.06.Â
RPI's
Jen Richardson was solid on the other end, stopping six shots with three saves coming in the first quarter and the other three in the third. She has now made 21 saves on the season and boasts a 1.85 GAA.
The Ducks started the scoring just three minutes into the contest when Kila Eadie collected a pass off a corner and blasted a shot into the back of the cage for her third goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 until Aryana Muscara's goal early in the fourth. With 12 minutes left in the match, the Ducks connected on what was their 10th and final corner of the game. Fifth-year Allison Buffenbarger collected the first pass and fired a shot at goal that Muscara redirected to the right of Richardson and into the net.
Stevens held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners and an 18-8 edge in total shots.
RPI, which next plays on Wednesday night at 7:30pm against New Paltz in Troy, was led offensively by
Brianna Duba, who had four shots with one on target.
