Sonya Khudyakov both went 2-0 to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over SUNY New Paltz in a non-league dual match at Sharp Courts. The Engineers are 1-0 in head-to-head matches, while the Hawks drop to 2-2.
Flores Gonzalez, a junior, joined her sister Lorna at No. 2 doubles and the tandem posted an 8-5 win. Khudyakov, meanwhile, played with
Natalie Cipriano at No. 3 and they were victorious 8-5, to give Rensselaer a 2-1 lead after doubles. Playing No. 5 singles,
Krisia Flores Gonzalez won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, while Khudyakov did the same at No. 6, 6-0, 6-3. RPI, which hosts SUNY Geneseo on Sunday afternoon, also captured the matches at No. 1 and No. 3, both in straight sets.
