SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Led by junior
Nia Goddard, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's cross country team had two of the top three finishers and five of the top 10 and the Engineers won the seven-school Saratoga Invitational that RPI hosted at the Saratoga Spa State Park.
Goddard won the individual title with a 6k time of 23:11.0, which is a 6:14 pace. She was five seconds in front of Westfield State's Amy O'Sullivan (23:16.0) and eight seconds in front of teammate and classmate
Morgan Lee. Lee crossed the finish line in 23:19.0, a 6:16 pace, which was 30 seconds in front of the fourth place finisher, Sasha Allison of Vassar (23:49.2).
Two student-athletes from Ithaca came in fifth and sixth and another runner from Vassar was seventh. RPI's
Jillian Lees,
Grace Brolly and
Eileen Beres rounded out the top 10 with Lees finishing in 24:49.2 (6:40 pace). Brolly and Beres had nearly exact finishing times, crossing in 24:52.1 and 24:52.7, respectively.
Rensselaer's team total of 31 points was 21 points ahead of the Bombers (52 points) and 25 better than Vassar. Westfield State was fourth (124) and Union finished fifth (142).
The Engineers return to competition on Friday at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University.
