TROY, N.Y. - Coming off a 41-7 victory over St. John Fisher College, two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been chosen as Football Performers of the Week by the Liberty League, it has been announced. George Marinopolous, a quarterback, has been selected as the Offensive Performer of the Week, while Francis Perry, a defensive back, earned the Defensive Performer of the Week award.

In what was the final regular season non-league game for both teams, Marinopolous (Slingerlands, NY / Guilderland) completed 21 of 25 passes for 252 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Engineers. He connected with 10 different receivers and had scoring strikes of 8 and 10 yards in the first quarter and 24, 9 and 1 in the second, leading RPI to a 34-0 halftime advantage. He was 18 of 20 for 218 yards in the first 30 minutes. Marinopolous, a graduate student who was intercepted once, had an overall completion percentage of .875, which is third best in any game in school history.

Through four contests, he has completed 83 of 131 passing attempts (.636) for 953 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has been intercepted three times and has a rating of 150.12 to help the Engineers to a 4-0 record.

Perry (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph by the Sea), a fifth-year senior, was chosen as the top defensive performer this week after he had a pair of tackles and intercepted passes on two of St. John Fisher's first three series of the contest. He picked off the visitor's first pass of the game on its second play of the series, giving the Engineers the ball at their own 42 yard line. He then halted the Cardinals third series with an interception on their first play - and their second pass attempt of the game - to give RPI the ball at their own 32 yard line. The Engineers went on to score on the ensuing drive to take a 20-0 lead. Francis, like Marinopolous sparingly in the second half due to the lopsided score.

He now has 14 tackles, including eight unassisted, with three interceptions in four games this year. His other INT came in the season opener, a 21-20 victory over Montclair State University.

RPI is back in action on Saturday when it hosts the University of Rochester at noon at East Campus Stadium. It will be Rensselaer's second straight home game and fourth in the first five weeks of the season.
