TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League men's swimming & diving weekly award winners have been announced and two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes were among the three recognized. Senior
Matt Abraham is the Diver of the Week, while sophomore
Daniel Savidge earned Rookie of the Week. The Swimmer of the Week went to Jack Wadsworth of Ithaca College.
In a dual meet at Union College on Saturday afternoon, Savidge (South Windsor, CT / South Windsor) was victorious in both events in which he swam. He won the five-competitor 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:06.18, which was nearly 11 seconds in front of the runner-up's time of 10:17.98. He then defeated five others in the 200 backstroke with a 1:58.97, touching the wall nearly four seconds in front of teammate
Michael Lee's (Madison, NJ / Madison) time of 2:02.43.Â
Abraham (New Hartford, NY / New Hartford) won off of both diving boards on Saturday. He registered a final score of 239.25 from 3-meters (6 dives) to defeat Colin Farrell of the Dutchmen who scored a 186.07. He later won from 1-meter with a score of 238.87, which beat Farrell's 137.85 points.
RPI, which is 4-2 on the season, won 14 of the 16 events in the meet on its way to a 203-81 triumph over Union.Â
The Engineers return to action on Saturday when they compete in a dual meet at Skidmore College (1pm).
