SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - For the fourth time in as many tournaments this fall, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) golf team won the title as the Engineers closed out the semester with a victory at the Skidmore College Fall Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park. RPI shot a second day 298 for a total of +16, 592, which was good enough for a five shot victory over Hamilton College. The Continentals (+21, 597) were tied with the Engineers following the first day of competition in the 14-team field.
Pacing RPI was graduate student
Joey Harrigan, who finished second overall with a -2, 142 (71-71) on the 6914-yard course. His Sunday included a birdie on two, an eagle on three and nine pars on the back nine.Â
Junior
Owen Himmer climbed 19 spots from Saturday to Sunday and placed tied for fourth overall with a +4, 148 (77-71). His even par second day started with a pair of bogeys before he had only pars (13) and birdies (3) for the rest of the afternoon. He was tied with teammate
Jacob Lindsay, who shot 73-75 for his +4. A sophomore, Lindsay was even on the back nine with a 36.
Matt Buckley, a junior, was tied for seventh overall with a +5, 179 that included a Sunday score of 72. He moved up 16 spots to finish first among Rensselaer's 'B' squad, which was tied for eighth place with a +46, 622 (318-304).
