MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis tandem of
Lorna Flores Gonzalez and Nikki RIdenour opened play at the national Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup tournament with a first round win, defeating a duo from Bowdoin College in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. With the victory, the pair not only advances to the quarterfinals, but they have secured All-America status.
Flores Gonzalez and Riddenour, a sophomore and freshman, respectively, defeated Jamilah Karah, a sophomore, and Cara Hung, a freshman. They advance to face the No. 1 pairing in Shianna Guo and Sylwia Mikos, a pair of sophomores from The University of Chicago. They won their first round match 7-5, 6-3 against a squad from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Friday's match is slated to begin at noon.
