TROY, N.Y. - Having graduated earlier this month, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Rory Herrman has elected to sign a professional contract, thus forgoing his remaining eligibility to compete for the men's hockey team. The forward will join the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Hockey League in the United Kingdom.
"I am very thankful and appreciative for all the love and support I received during my time at RPI. The memories are countless," Herrman said. "I am very excited to be turning pro and I know all the things I learned from the coaching staff, my teammates, and the trainers will help me succeed at that level. I am thankful for this next chapter in my life and grateful for the opportunity."
In 70 career games over parts of three seasons with the Engineers, the Poway, Calif., native, who has a British passport, had 11 points on four goals and seven assists. He also registered 22 penalty minutes. Herrman had an assist and 10 PIMs in 16 games this season.
"Rory leaves RPI in a better place than when he arrived," said head coach
Dave Smith. "As a consummate team player, he has been great in the locker room and has a terrific work ethic. His graduation timing and the opportunity to get closer to his goal of playing for the British national team are the contributing factors for him to turn pro at this time. We wish Rory continued success."
