Four Named Women's Lacrosse Captains

Seniors McLaughlin, Murphy, Rogers and Torcellini set to lead Engineers in 2022

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse will be led by three student-athletes, 19th-year head coach Leslie DeLano has announced. Seniors Alli McLaughlin, Lily Murphy, Christina Rogers and Sabrina Torcellini will captain the Engineers for the 2022 season.

An attack from Glastonbury, Conn., McLaughlin started all three games for the Engineers in 2020, scoring two goals and adding three assists for six points. She took three shots, which all found the target. The remained of that season and all of RPI's 2021 campaigned was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

McLaughlin has played in 10 career games for the Engineers, totaling three goals and six assists for nine points. The former Glastonbury High School standout and chemical engineering major is a multiple Liberty League All-Academic selection and Dean's List honoree, as well as a member of RPI's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

A midfielder out of Scotia, N.Y., Murphy played in all three games for RPI in 2020, collecting seven draw controls, a ground ball and two shots (both on goal). In her freshman season of 2019, she appeared in 12 contests, registering one goal for one point.

Through 15 career games with the Engineers, Murphy has one goal on three shots, with nine draws and four ground balls. A two-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree, the Scotia-Glenville High School graduate is finishing her degree in biomedical engineering.

Rogers, a midfielder from Foxborough, Mass., played in all three games for the Engineers in their most recent season, netting three goals with one assist for our points. Tally four shots, she collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers. She had a two-goal, one-assist outing against Norwestern (Minn.).

Missing all of 2019 due to injury, Rogers is a multiple Liberty League All-Academic selection, majoring in biomedical engineering. The former Foxborough High School standout and Dean's List honoree is currently working her graduate degree in biomedical engineering.

An attack out of Branford, Conn., Torcellini played in all three games for RPI in 2020, scoring a team-high seven goals for seven points. Second on the team with 15 shots, including 11 on goal, she nabbed six draw controls and three ground balls.

Torcellini has played in 16 games in her RPI career, scoring 13 goals with two assists for 15 points. Totaling 37 shots (32 on goal), the Branford High School graduate has one game-winning tally, 14 draws, eight ground balls and one caused turnover. She has made the Dean's List as a mechanical engineering major.

The Engineers have not played in a game since March 10, 2020, which saw them improve to 3-0 on the season. RPI posted an 8-6 record (5-5 Liberty League) in its most recent full season of 2019.

Rensselaer's 2022 season begins on February 25, when Oneonta visits Renwyck Field (4pm).
