Min Swims Second in 100 Butterfly at Leagues

ITHACA, N.Y. - Tony Min finished second in the 100 butterfly and Lorenzo Gurri competed in the A final in three events on the second day of the four-day Liberty League Championship taking place at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium on the campus of Ithaca College. RPI, the five-time defending champion, sits in third place halfway through the meet.

Min was one of two Rensselaer competitors in the 100 fly A final and he posted a time of 50.05, going 23.30 and 26.75. He trailed only Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) Drew Schreib, who recorded a 49.36 (22.82, 26.54). RPI's Gurri was fifth in the event with a time of 51.12.

Gurri also swam on two relays, helping the 200 free squad to fourth and the 400 medley unit to third. In the 200, he was the anchor after Nicholas Stefanidis, William Tan and Ethan Gadbois. Together they had a 1:26.59. The medley team of Daniel Savidge, Stefanidis, Gurri and Fernando Gomez Fischer reached in 3:27.47 to outpace the fourth place team from Union College by nearly three seconds (3:30.31).

Savidge and Gomez Fischer also raced in the 400 individual medley, which had four from the Engineers in the top seven. Jake Fassora was third in 4:07.60, followed by Savidge in fifth, Anthony Acciani in sixth and Gomez Fischer in seventh.

In the 200 freestyle, Mike Dowd was third with a time of 1:41.60, finishing less than a second from first place (1:40.51).

Dowd was one of two relays that competed in B finals. He anchored the 400 medley team that also included Min, Tan and Michael Lee. Individually, Lee competed in the B final of the 400 individual medley, along with Matt Nowak, and Gadbois did the same in the 200 free. The foursome of Connor Lenahan, Matthew Youngbar, Jimmy Zhen and Erik Dougherty swam in the 200 free relay.

RIT leads the field with 867 points, followed by Ithaca (853), RPI (656) and Vassar College.

Action continues on Friday with preliminaries starting at 10am.
